Town and Country Animal Hospital recommends a very thorough Annual Health Examination since our pets mature and age many times faster than ourselves. This annual health examination helps determine the general well being of your pet and identifies potential problems.
We also recommend Bi-annual Health Examinations for senior pets, (cats are considered seniors at the age of 9 and dogs at the age of 7) since early detection often helps solve the problem before serious consequences occur, and may prevent unnecessary suffering.
Cats are adept at hiding illness and pain, and the appearance of normalcy does not mean they are healthy.
There are many diseases and conditions that may be treatable or preventable with annual health care visits and early detection blood work. Indoor cats can and do get many of the same diseases as their outdoor cousins, including fleas. Some conditions such as straining in the litter box can be life threatening within hours.
Weight loss in an older cat is not normal and is often a symptom of disease. Cats do get arthritis and may be suffering from it if they show decreased activity. These are some of the symptoms that a veterinarian can identify much quicker when seeing a patient on an annual basis.

Adulthood for most dogs begin at age 1. During this time it is important to continue bringing your dog in for their annual exam each year. During your pet's wellness exam, we will perform a physical assessment, checking your dog from nose to tail. We will also make sure your pet receives appropriate vaccinations and preventatives. We believe in working with you to determine the individual needs of your pet and may also recommend performing a diagnostic workup, which may include blood, fecal, and urine tests to check for parasites and underlying diseases, including dental care.
